People very rarely find themselves losing weight without first doing some kind of planning. Before you make your weight loss plan, make sure you have all of the essential pieces of a successful plan.
4 Essential Pieces Of A Weight Loss Plan
- A realistic goal. Before you get started, have you thought about how much you want to achieve and in what time frame you want to achieve it? And, most importantly, is this goal realistic? It’s important to create goals that you can reasonably expect to meet, or you will quite literally be setting yourself up for failure. Some people make big goals with the idea that even if they just get close, they’ll still have achieved something, but working towards something that seems beyond reach can make it very easy to give up when the going gets rough.
- Emotional support. Making lifestyle changes and rethinking the way you see yourself are both major undertakings that are much easier with outside support. As you draw up your weight loss plan, consider where you’ll go for the support you need. Will you join a weight loss group online or work with a diet buddy? Do you have friends or family members you can discuss your challenges and successes with? Find something that works for you, but plan ahead to have a shoulder to lean on.
- Healthy foods. If you’re going to lose weight, you will need to reduce your calories. The easiest way to do this is to replace highly processed fatty or sugary foods with whole, unprocessed foods. Create a plan for how you’ll introduce these foods into your regular diet.
- Exercise plan. Losing weight is about burning more calories than you consume, so burning more calories through physical activity is an essential part of a successful weight loss plan. Decide when you’ll exercise, how often you’ll exercise, and what types of exercise you’ll try.
