Fad Diets and Weight Loss
It is difficult to watch any celebrity interview without hearing about how they stay so thin. While some celebrities take a common sense and long term approach to weight loss involving sensible eating and routine exercise. Other celebrities choose fad diets.
Fad diets are diets that become popular for a period of time and usually involve some sort of unexpected or impractical aspect. The cabbage soup diet, master cleanse, the No-White-Food diet, and grapefruit diet are all examples of fad diets. They each have a hook that makes them sound easy and low maintenance but in reality they are more difficult to stick to and lose weight long term on.
Unfortunately, fad diets are misleading because they often provide great results in the very beginning of the diet. Because they are so restrictive and tend to leave out entire food groups, most dieters can not stick to them long enough to reach their goal weight. Those dieters that do reach their goal weight while on a fad diet quickly gain weight back once the diet is ‘over’ because they’ve made no commitment to a lifestyle change, but merely a temporary food restriction.
