What Is Strength Training?
Strength training is an important part of a well-rounded fitness routine or weight loss program. Although many people associate it with lifting weights, that is not the only thing you can do to improve your muscular strength and endurance. Leg lifts, situps and exercise bands can also provide benefits in terms of building muscle, and they offer an alternative to weight-lifting.
Strength training improves muscle tone, builds lean muscle and reduces body fat. It is easy to add these exercises throughout your day without a lot of extra hassle. This makes it fairly easy to include in your normal routine. Begin with light weights or exercise bands and work up to heavier ones or more resistance as you go. Also, get in the habit of breathing out on the exertion so that you don’t increase your blood pressure unnecessarily.
Fit these simple exercises into your day by linking them up with activities that you normally do. For example, if you do the dishes every morning, add in a set of arm curls with a hand weight before you get started. If you have a regular television show you watch during lunch, do some leg lifts during the commercials. Before you know it, the exercise will become part of your day.
