Why A Low Carb Diet

Low carbohydrate diets have been gaining in popularity over the past twenty years. While careful monitoring during a low carbohydrate diet is key to preventing illnesses, there is some benefit to be had in keeping your diet low in carbohydrates which is why they are the core of our medical weight loss program.

Low calories: High carbohydrate foods tend to be high in calories. Proteins such as skinless chicken and turkey are very low in calories. Vegetables such as spinach and green beans are low in carbohydrates and lower in calories than high carbohydrate vegetables like corn and potatoes.

Fewer blood sugar spikes: High carbohydrate foods can cause dangerous spikes in your blood sugar that force your body to produce more insulin. As your body breaks down the high carbohydrate food quickly, it may have to store much of it as fat unless you are exercising or exerting a lot of energy.

More satisfaction: Low carbohydrate foods do not turn to glucose as quickly in your blood stream, so they offer a slow infusion of energy to you all day and can keep you full longer. They are also more dense and physically satisfying when eaten.
